Classroom Resources
This special section of the Latino American Experience
contains resources designed by classroom teachers to help instructors,
librarians, and students get the most out of the resources available in the
database.
The core of this section is a set of 25 lesson plans, five
of which are in Spanish and designed for use in intermediate and advanced
Spanish-language classrooms. Each lesson plan consists of a teacher page and
student page and is identified by the subject matter it covers, such as Social
Studies, Language Arts, History, or Spanish. A menu at the top of each Teacher
or Student page allows the user to navigate through the lesson plan. Lesson
plans may ask students to write a paper, deliver a speech, or create visual
presentation.
Lesson plans often contain links to material found within
the LAE and uses that content as a basis for student activities and further
inquiry. Many lessons ask students to consider a document – such as a treaty,
speech, or image – that is provided within the Student Activity page or
provided as a link to a primary source found within the database. Students are
then asked to conduct document-based queries and used their responses to
complete the designated student activity.
Nearly all lessons include features such as vocabulary, key
questions, and national and state standards to which the plan corresponds. All
lesson plans link to a variety of supporting materials, such as graphic
organizers and assessment rubrics.
